The Piggy Bento


The beginning of term 2, I made these piggy bento for the boys. Although they are big boys now (8 and 6 years old), they still don't mind to have cute lunches at school. 

Details as below :


For my eldest son, I prepared :
1. Piggy hard boiled egg (with nori, ham, and tomato ketchup)
2. Corn on the cob
3. Sandwich roll (recipe here)
4. Lettuce and carrot sticks
5. Apple cuts for recess



And for my youngest son, I prepared :

Baymax Bento


Finally the boys got the chance to watch Big Hero 6, and it is one of their most favourite movies ever!
For a surprise, I made these baymax bentos for their lunches. It was super easy to make, just cut two dots and a line of nori, and stick them on the hard boiled egg. Baymax is done!



For my youngest son, I prepared :
1. Baymax hard boiled egg
2. Sausage and sandwich rolls (recipe here)
3. Corn on the cob
4. Milk jelly with nata de coco
5. Carrot sticks
6. Rockmelon cuts for recess

Saucijs Brood


Saucijs Brood is a Dutch version of sausage roll. Here is the recipe :

Saucijs Brood

Ingredients :
2 sheets of reduced fat puff pastry, thawed
1/2 egg yolk, beaten

For filling :
1 Onion, diced
100 g beef mince
100 g chicken mince
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2 cloves garlic, diced
100 ml non fat milk
2 eggs, beaten
100 g cheddar shredded cheese
1.5 tsp nutmeg
0.5 tsp pepper
salt to taste
optional : 4 hard boiled eggs (to put in the middle)

Method :
1 . Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan-forced).
2. In a bowl, mix the mince, diced onion, egg, garlic, cheese, nutmeg, and milk. Season well with salt and pepper. Add the breadcrumbs and again mix well.
3. Wrap up the mince in the puff pastry, put two of the hard boiled egg in the middle, brush with beaten egg yolk. Repeat for the rest of the ingredients, and bake at 180C for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.

PS : you may put shredded carrot as a "hidden treasure" in the ingredients.



I used the leftover for the kids' school lunches.

5. "Rabbit" apples for recess

Cute Bunny Butts


I remember once I saw the bunny butt cake in the Pinterest, and it looks adorable. So I implemented that idea in this bento today. The bunny butt is made of hard boiled egg, sandwich bread, and nori. And the mini carrot is made of carved carrot and broccoli that connected using angel hair pasta.

For my eldest son, I prepared :
1. Sausage rolls and BBQ sauce
2. "Bunny butt" hard boiled egg
3. Rice cracker
4. Carrot and broccoli
5. Sausage
6. Watermelon cuts for recess



For my youngest son, I prepared :

Delicious Sausage Rolls Bento


I made sausage rolls in bulk on weekend and saved some in the resealable bags and kept them in the freezer for staples. It's perfect for snack after school as well.

Sausage Rolls

Ingredients:
250 gr beef mince and 250 gr pork mince
half an onion – diced thinly
1 egg
mixed herbs (I put parsley & mint)
small amount of grated carrot and celery
1 tsp nutmeg
1 cup breadcrumbs
3 sheets puff pastry
sesame seed

Method :
In a bowl, mix the mince, diced onion, egg, mixed herbs, nutmeg and grated veggies together.  Season well with salt and pepper. Add the breadcrumbs and again mix well.

Wrap up the mince in the puff pastry, brush with milk, sprinkle with sesame seed and bake in 180C for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.



For my little one, I prepared :
1. Sausage rolls and tomato ketchup
2. Tamagoyaki (egg rolls)
3. Ham "flower"
4. Carrot sticks
5. Milk jelly with nata de coco
6. Banana for recess

Another Rice Paper Rolls bento


A little twist from Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls recipe. For the sauce, instead of using the dipping sauce, I just squirted in a little of BBQ sauce inside the rolls, so it will be easier for the kids to eat their lunches. The filling are simply rice vermicelli, prawn, carrot, cucumber, mint and coriander leaves.

For my pre-primary son, I prepared :
1. Rice paper rolls
2. Thai coconut pandan rolls
3. Corn on the cob
4. Yakult fermented milk drink
5. Kiwi fruit for recess

Twins Bento


I usually don't make the exact same bento for my boys because they have different preferences. But this time, it's kinda cute to make this twins bento. My little one has promised me to eat the egg as much as he could (notes : he doesn't really like the egg yolk) :)



For my eldest son, I prepared :

2. "Cow" hard boiled egg (cheese, nori, and black sesame seed) with salt & pepper

4. Green unseeded grapes

Pocket Sandwich and Beef Sausage Rolls


This is the first time I use CuteZcute Mini Pocket Sandwich Maker from All Things For Sale and I  love it. The stamps create cute patterns, very easy to use, and cut the bread neatly. My little one said he can't wait to gobble them up :)



I prepared this for my eldest son :

Rolls Bento


My kids love sausage and sandwich rolls so much. These snacks are so easy to make as well. I share the recipe here.
I used one of my new food picks. I bought it from All Things for Sale website. Isn't it brilliant on how food picks transform an ordinary lunch box to a cute one in no time ? :)

Special Valentine's Day Bento



Valentine's day is near. It's a perfect time to celebrate and share the love with your loved ones. I made special valentine's day bento for my boys, with little notes to tell them how much I love them. They're just so special for me. I couldn't ask for more...

Do you spot the heart shaped boiled egg ? here is the link on how to make it.

Here are the details of my creation :



This bento consists of :
1. Heart shaped stuffed sandwich with chicken and mayo filling. I put cheese and carrot on top.
2. Heart shaped hard boiled egg sprinkled with black sesame seed
3. Heart and flower shaped sausages
4. Corn on the cob
5. Beef and prawn dumpling
6. Sausage rolls (recipe is in this link)
7. Dried sultana & apricot
8. Broccoli with cheese and carrot decoration
9. Banana for recess



And this bento consists of :
1.  Heart shaped stuffed sandwich with chicken and mayo filling. I put cheese and carrot on top.
2. Heart shaped hard boiled egg
3. Heart shaped sausages
4. Corn on the cob
5. Beef and prawn dumpling
6. "Love letter" Fish tofu with apple skin and cheese
7. "Checker" apple
8. Broccoli 
9. "Rabbits" apple for recess

Yummy Finger Foods


Finger foods are great filler for lunch box. Usually I make them in bulk on the weekend, then freeze them. It really saves my time for morning preparation.  And by making it your own, you can control the ingredients and also you can put variety of vegetables like grated carrot, grated zucchini, etc.

Here is the Homemade Beef Sausage Rolls recipe :

Ingredients :
500 grams sausage mince
half an onion – diced thinly
1 egg
mixed herbs (thyme, oregano, parsley or else)
1 medium carrot and/or zucchini - grated
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 sheets puff pastry
sesame seed

Method :
In a bowl, mix the sausage mince, diced onion, egg, mixed herbs and grated veggies together.  Season well with salt and pepper. Add the breadcrumbs and again mix well.

Wrap up the mince in the puff pastry, brush with milk, sprinkle with sesame seed and bake for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy!

TOP 13 of 2013


We come to the end of year and this is my last post in year 2013. Above are some of my creations  in Bebento-kids that I love. The first eight pictures (clockwise) are : The Minion Onigiri, the Pirate Sandwich Bento, the cute Doggy Rolls, my kids favourite Power Ranger, the yummy Smoked Salmon Pinwheel bento, the adorable Peppa Pig, the famous Harry Potter, and the colourful Christmas Stocking.

This year has been so fruitful in my bento blogging journey. I managed to add more variations and recipes, put up affiliate link (if you want to know where I buy my cute stuff, you may click the link on the left side of my blog or some that I included in my posts), created my Bebento E-book, joined my fellow Bento Bloggers and Friends, put my button up (at the bottom right side of my blog - you're welcome to grab it), and improved my picture quality.

I'm pretty sure that you have your own favorites. Thanks for being with me in this journey. I have so much fun in creating bento and make sure my kids have fun in eating their lunches as well.
